Step into the past and have a look at this postcard from 1907. A glimpse of the beautiful dwelling that once graced the grounds of the Webb School campus. It sat directly across from the brick pillars known as the Poteat Gates near what is now the Admissions Building.
The residence once belonged to William R. Webb, Jr., affectionately known as “Son Will”, son of the Webb School founder. Alongside his beloved wife, Louise Manning Webb, they called this their home.
He served as Webb School principal from 1926 to 1953, though he assisted his father with the school from the early 1900s. His dedication spanned decades. Following Louise’s passing, he married Mary Catherine Taylor, only months before he suddenly passed himself from a heart attack in 1960.
The home underwent renovations in the 1960s, repurposed into a student recreation center. However, tragedy struck in 1970 and it burned down. In 1981, the Davis-Woosley Computer Science Center was built close to the same spot where the home once stood.
Yet another peek at one of the Homes of Bell Buckle Past!
