Well, let’s face the furry facts, folks! Bell Buckle has had some interesting animal antics. We’ve had cats that vanish, coyotes, foxes, deer galore, and even reports of cougar sightings. Most recently, a fluffy bunny rabbit caused a ruckus. But did you know furry follies have a long history in our charming little corner of the world?
Picture this: a quaint Sunday in 1887, and what do we have? Two gentlemen parading down the streets with none other than a TRAINED bear. The spectacle must have been bear-y amusing for the locals!
Skip ahead to 1909, a mysterious creature on the loose, wreaking havoc on poor domestic animals and sending the town into a frenzy. Lion? Catamount? Bell Buckle was convinced they had a full-blown cougar crisis on their hands!
But wait, there’s more! It’s a seemingly ordinary Tuesday in 1931, except for the fact that THOUSANDS of geese decide to stage an impromptu air show over Bell Buckle. Squawking and flapping, they had everyone peeking out of their windows in sheer disbelief.
And last but certainly not least, let’s fast forward to another simple Tuesday, this time in 1954. Dr. J.K. Freeman, just minding his own business on a leisurely stroll with a pal outside town, suddenly finds himself in a predicament. Cue the dramatic music as a rabid fox launches a surprise attack! Thankfully John Clary, armed with nothing but a trusty stick, beats the fox off Freeman and it runs off to be killed later by Frank Bingham. Thank goodness Dr. Freeman lived to tell the tail… er, tale!
